What living in the South Zone is like
Where it is
The South Zone stretches south of downtown Santa Cruz, along corridors such as Avenida Santos Dumont, and keeps growing toward the outer rings with new subdivisions.
Who it suits
It's a good option for families looking for a house with a yard at a lower price than in the north, and for anyone buying a lot to build on.
There's a push for more development in this area right now, specifically the
southwest side of the city, with the arrival of the new Ventura Mall, which is being billed as the largest mall in South America. That lifts the value of the neighborhoods around it.
Services and schools
The established neighborhoods have markets, local shops, schools and health centers. Farther out, the new subdivisions are still completing their services.
Safety
As almost everywhere in the city, it changes from block to block. Drive around the area at different times of day and talk to the neighbors before you decide.
